Colin Powell says cyber security is a shared responsibility

According to the 2011 Symantec Government Symposium, IT security is getting better. Forty-seven percent of attendees thought that IT security had improved in just the last year. The buzz words at the conference were interoperability, identity management, and cloud—key note speaker Colin Powell was “absolutely convinced” that the cloud is the future. And speaking to skeptics of the cloud, Powell said that new technology should always be welcome, but there should be a balance between capability and vulnerability.

Most interesting was the idea that cyber security should be a shared responsibility between the private and public sector. Powell is convinced that the private sector is tied to our nation’s security. The private sector and the government should be collaborating to provide holistic security for the nation.
